About Akiko

Deep tissue, hands-on osteopathy from a multidisciplinary background

Akiko Nobuhara is a registered osteopath at Premier Wellness, seeing patients at our Glenfield (North Shore) and Orewa (Hibiscus Coast) clinics, bringing over ten years of hands-on musculoskeletal experience across Japan and Australia. She began her career as a physiotherapist in Tokyo, working across hospital, community rehabilitation and dialysis-clinic settings, before training as a remedial massage therapist in Australia — where she was named TAFE NSW's Massage Student of the Year in 2017 — and going on to practise as an osteopath in Australia as well as New Zealand.

Akiko holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Osteopathic Clinical Sciences and a Bachelor of Science in Osteopathic Manual Practice, both from the National University of Medical Sciences.

That combined background in physiotherapy, massage therapy and osteopathy gives Akiko an unusually broad, hands-on toolkit. Her treatment style leads with deep tissue and soft tissue work — directly addressing the tissues driving a patient's symptoms — alongside Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS), Fascial Manipulation and PNF techniques to build lasting stability, not just short-term relief.

Akiko takes real care to explain every finding and every step of treatment clearly, in English or Japanese, so patients are never left behind and understand their own path to recovery.

2

Movement assessment

A physical assessment to identify the tissues and patterns really driving your symptoms.

3

Deep tissue & osteopathic treatment

Direct deep tissue and soft tissue work combined with DNS, Fascial Manipulation and PNF where appropriate.

4

Self-management plan

Clear explanations and a plan that builds lasting self-management, not just short-term symptom relief.

A multidisciplinary background

Osteopathy shaped by three countries

Akiko spent years working as a registered physiotherapist in Japanese hospitals and community rehabilitation settings, then trained as a remedial massage therapist in Australia — where she was named TAFE NSW's Massage Student of the Year in 2017 — before going on to practise as an osteopath in both Australia and New Zealand. That cross-disciplinary path gives her genuinely broad, hands-on clinical experience most osteopaths don't have.

She takes a collaborative approach, liaising with GPs, specialists and allied health where needed, and places real importance on making sure patients understand their condition and their plan every step of the way.
