About Ciaran

A thorough, education-led approach to osteopathy

Ciaran Heaney is an osteopath at Premier Wellness, practising at both our Glenfield (North Shore) and Orewa (Hibiscus Coast) clinics. Originally from Hertfordshire in the UK, he holds a Master of Osteopathy from Swansea University, where his tutored dissertation examined supplementing the osteopathic management of chronic low back pain with pain neuroscience education β€” reflecting his belief that understanding why pain is happening is often as important as the hands-on treatment itself.

His consultations are thorough by design. Ciaran takes the time to understand every factor that might be contributing to a patient's pain β€” onset, sleep, stress, diet, activity levels, fatigue and mental health β€” before combining hands-on therapy (soft tissue and neuromuscular technique, muscle energy techniques, eccentric loading, positional release, mobilisations, lymphatic work and, where appropriate, manipulation) with rehabilitation exercise and pain-science education tailored to each patient's goals.

Ciaran particularly enjoys treating sporting injuries and training imbalances, chronic spinal pain, occupational pain (including TMJ and headaches from desk-based and repetitive work) and joint pain and arthritis across the shoulder, hip, knee and ankle β€” always working collaboratively with patients toward long-term outcomes rather than short-term relief.

A thorough, structured first session β€” so you leave understanding exactly what's going on and what the plan looks like.

1

Thorough osteopathic consultation

A detailed conversation covering onset, sleep, stress, diet, activity and fatigue β€” to understand the whole picture, not just the symptom.

2

Movement assessment

A physical and biomechanical assessment to identify what's really driving your pain.

3

Hands-on treatment

Soft tissue work, muscle energy techniques, mobilisations and, where appropriate, manipulation β€” matched to what best suits your presentation.

4

Education & rehab plan

Pain science, lifestyle factors and rehabilitation exercises tailored to your needs and goals.

An athlete's perspective

Someone who has been there too

Before training as an osteopath, Ciaran played competitive rugby β€” picking up his fair share of injuries along the way, across almost every joint and muscle. That experience gives him genuine, first-hand sympathy for patients frustrated by setbacks, and a collaborative approach to working toward the goals that matter to them.

He particularly connects with athletes and with patients living with chronic pain β€” bringing empathy as well as clinical skill to every consultation.
