Why Test for Toxins

Your Body Is Exposed to More Than You'd Think

Toxin & heavy metal testing looks at what's actually accumulated in your body — not just what might be affecting you in theory.

Mould in the home, pesticide residue on food, plastics in packaging, and heavy metals in water, dust or old paint can all build up over time.

For many people this shows up as unexplained fatigue, brain fog, or gut symptoms that don't resolve with standard treatment.

Rather than guessing, toxin & heavy metal testing gives your Functional Medicine practitioner objective data — showing exactly which chemicals, metals or mycotoxins are elevated, so any detoxification support is targeted rather than generic. Testing is processed through NutriPath, an accredited integrative pathology laboratory.

This sits alongside our other Functional Medicine testing options. If gut symptoms are the main concern, our Stool Testing may be a better starting point, and if fatigue seems more hormone-driven, our Hormone Testing page covers that in depth. All of this fits within our broader Functional Medicine services.

Does this testing check for mould/mycotoxin exposure?
Yes — both ALL-Tox and MOE-Tox include a full mycotoxin panel (ochratoxins, aflatoxins, gliotoxins, trichothecenes and zearalenone), which reflects exposure to mould commonly linked to water-damaged buildings.

Toxin & Heavy Metal Testing: The Three Options in Detail

Toxin & heavy metal testing Auckland — Functional Medicine testing at Premier Wellness
Toxin Exposure

ALL-Tox Environmental Toxins

What it measures: A urine toxin panel covering five groups of mould-derived mycotoxins, a full toxic metals screen, and a wide range of everyday chemical exposure markers — environmental phenols, herbicides, parabens, pesticides, PFAS, phthalates, and solvent exposure markers.

Results are grouped into a simple Toxic Burden Index, with elevated markers prioritised as High or Moderate so it's easy to see where to focus first.

Toxin Exposure + Metabolic Function

MOE-Tox Complete Environmental Toxins

What it measures: The full ALL-Tox toxin panel, plus a comprehensive Organic Acids Test — Krebs cycle markers for mitochondrial energy production, B-vitamin and amino acid markers, neurotransmitter metabolism, oxidative damage markers, detoxification indicators, and gut bacterial/yeast dysbiosis markers.

Because it pairs exposure data with how your body's energy and detoxification systems are functioning, it suits patients with ongoing fatigue or unresolved symptoms alongside suspected toxin exposure.

Broad Metabolic & Nutritional Baseline

Nutri-STAT Profile

What it measures: A wide-ranging nutritional and metabolic health check rather than a toxin-specific test. It covers an advanced lipid/cardiovascular panel, liver function, iron studies, thyroid function and antibodies, key hormones, red-cell mineral status, essential fatty acid balance, and a full plasma amino acid profile.

It also includes a whole-blood toxic metals screen and a urine organic acids panel, so there's meaningful overlap with the two toxin tests above — but its main purpose is a comprehensive baseline of overall metabolic and nutritional health.

  • Best forA comprehensive metabolic and nutritional baseline, not a targeted toxin investigation

FAQs

Common Questions

Everything you need to know before booking toxin & heavy metal testing.

What's the difference between ALL-Tox, MOE-Tox and Nutri-STAT?
ALL-Tox and MOE-Tox are both urine toxin panels — MOE-Tox adds a full Organic Acids Test for mitochondrial and gut function on top of the same toxin screen as ALL-Tox. Nutri-STAT is a broader blood-and-urine metabolic and nutritional baseline that also includes a toxic metals check, so it overlaps with the toxin tests without being a toxin-specific test itself.
Do I need a blood test, or is a urine sample enough?
ALL-Tox and MOE-Tox only require a urine sample. Nutri-STAT requires both a blood draw and a urine sample, since it covers a wider range of blood markers such as thyroid function, hormones, and cardiovascular risk.
Does this test check for mould or mycotoxin exposure?
Yes — both ALL-Tox and MOE-Tox include a full mycotoxin panel covering ochratoxins, aflatoxins, gliotoxins, trichothecenes and zearalenone, reflecting exposure to mould commonly linked to water-damaged buildings.
Will I get a diagnosis from this test?
No — this testing is for informational and educational purposes and works alongside, not instead of, advice from your qualified healthcare provider. Your practitioner reviews the results with you as part of a wider clinical picture.
