Joint pain relief on Auckland's North Shore

Joint pain — whether in the shoulder, hip, knee or other joints — significantly impacts quality of life and daily function. At Premier Wellness on Auckland's North Shore, our multidisciplinary team assesses the whole body to understand why a joint has become painful or restricted, treating not just the joint itself but the biomechanical chain of factors contributing to your pain.

Our Glenfield clinic is easily accessible from across the North Shore — Albany, Takapuna, Birkenhead, Northcote, Forrest Hill and Sunnynook — while our Orewa clinic serves the Hibiscus Coast including Silverdale, Millwater, Whangaparaoa and Red Beach. Free on-site parking at both locations.

For ACC-qualifying joint injuries — including workplace injuries and sports-related joint damage — our practitioners can lodge your claim at the first appointment. Southern Cross Easy-Claim is also available for osteopathy and massage therapy.

Six ways we treat joint pain

Our multidisciplinary team uses six evidence-based modalities and can combine them for faster, more lasting results.

🦴

Osteopathy

Osteopathy assesses and treats joint pain through the whole body — identifying and correcting the postural and biomechanical patterns that place excessive load on affected joints. Techniques include joint mobilisation, soft tissue work, muscle energy techniques and gentle manipulation to restore pain-free movement.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is highly effective for joint pain, reducing local inflammation, improving circulation to the joint and modulating pain signals. Particularly effective for osteoarthritis, bursitis and chronic joint conditions where inflammation is a persistent driver of pain.

Massage Therapy

Deep tissue massage around affected joints releases the muscular tension and fascial restrictions that limit joint movement and increase joint loading. Particularly effective for frozen shoulder, hip bursitis and knee pain associated with muscular imbalance.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is central to joint rehabilitation — strengthening the muscles that support and protect each joint, correcting movement patterns and building the capacity to return to full function. Progressive loading programmes prevent recurrence and slow degenerative change.

Functional Medicine

For patients with inflammatory joint conditions — osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis or gout — functional medicine investigates the systemic inflammatory drivers. Gut health, diet and metabolic factors profoundly influence joint inflammation and can be addressed through targeted protocols.

Nutrition

An anti-inflammatory diet significantly reduces joint pain in patients with osteoarthritis and inflammatory arthritis. Our nutritionists identify pro-inflammatory dietary patterns and develop personalised protocols — including specific micronutrients that support joint cartilage health and reduce synovial inflammation.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before your first appointment at our Glenfield or Orewa clinic.

Can osteopathy help frozen shoulder?
Yes. Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) responds well to osteopathic treatment — particularly when treatment begins before the condition fully freezes. Gentle joint mobilisation, soft tissue release and careful stretching of the joint capsule can significantly accelerate recovery and reduce the duration of the frozen phase. Combined with acupuncture for inflammation, our approach delivers better outcomes than either treatment alone.
Can you help with hip or knee osteoarthritis without surgery?
Yes. Many patients with mild to moderate osteoarthritis achieve significant pain reduction and functional improvement through conservative management — osteopathy, acupuncture and targeted exercise rehabilitation. This approach relieves pain, improves joint function and may slow the progression of cartilage loss. We will give you an honest assessment of whether conservative management is appropriate for your degree of joint degeneration.
Is joint pain treatment covered by ACC?
If your joint pain resulted from an accident, injury or workplace incident, it may be ACC-funded. Osteopathy, physiotherapy, massage and acupuncture are all covered for qualifying conditions. Our practitioners assess ACC eligibility at your first appointment and can lodge a new claim — no GP referral required.
How many sessions will I need for joint pain?
This depends on the condition and its severity. Acute joint injuries often improve significantly within 4–6 sessions. Frozen shoulder typically requires a longer course of 8–12 sessions over 2–3 months. Chronic osteoarthritis is managed with an initial treatment course followed by periodic maintenance. Your practitioner will discuss a realistic plan at your first appointment.
