Pregnancy Massage Auckland

Nurturing support for your body through every stage of pregnancy

Pregnancy places extraordinary demands on the body. As your posture shifts, ligaments loosen, your centre of gravity changes and your nervous system works overtime — the physical discomfort can be relentless. Pregnancy massage is one of the most effective, evidence-supported ways to manage these changes.

At Premier Wellness, our trained therapists adapt their techniques to each trimester — using safe positioning, appropriate pressure and targeted work that responds to what your body needs at each stage. Whether you're dealing with lower back pain, hip tightness, sciatica, swollen ankles or simply the exhaustion of carrying a new life, pregnancy massage offers real, lasting relief.

We offer pregnancy massage at both our Glenfield North Shore and Orewa Hibiscus Coast clinics — with postnatal massage available to support recovery after birth.

  • Adapted positioning and pressure for each trimester
  • Relieves back pain, sciatica, hip tightness and swelling
  • Reduces stress hormones — benefits both mum and baby
  • Improves sleep quality throughout pregnancy
  • Postnatal massage to support recovery after birth
  • Southern Cross Easy-Claim available with Kahu
  • 30, 45, 60 and 90-minute sessions available

Why Pregnancy Massage

What pregnancy massage can do for you

Evidence-based benefits for mother and baby throughout pregnancy and into the postnatal period.

🦴
Back & Pelvic Pain Relief

As your centre of gravity shifts and your lumbar spine compensates, back pain is one of the most common pregnancy complaints. Targeted massage provides immediate and lasting relief across all trimesters.

Sciatica & Hip Tightness

The growing uterus places pressure on the sciatic nerve and piriformis muscle, causing radiating pain and hip tightness. Soft tissue work directly addresses these patterns at their source.

💧
Swelling & Fluid Retention

Fluid accumulation in the ankles, feet and legs is common in pregnancy. Specific massage techniques stimulate lymphatic drainage and improve circulation — reducing discomfort and swelling.

😴
Sleep & Stress Relief

Pregnancy massage activates the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing cortisol and increasing serotonin — improving sleep quality and emotional wellbeing for both mum and baby.

🤱
Labour Preparation

Regular massage in the final trimester helps soften tissues, reduce anxiety around labour and prepares the body for the physical demands of birth — supporting a calmer, more comfortable experience.

💆
Postnatal Recovery

After birth, massage supports physical recovery — relieving tension from feeding positions, reducing postnatal fatigue, restoring pelvic awareness and supporting emotional adjustment to new motherhood.

Trimester by Trimester

Pregnancy massage adapted to every stage

Our therapists tailor every session to your trimester — adjusting positioning, pressure and focus areas as your body changes.

First Trimester — weeks 1–12
Caution & Consultation

We recommend waiting until after 12 weeks before beginning pregnancy massage. The first trimester carries the highest risk of miscarriage and is not a time for deep or vigorous work. If you have specific concerns in your first trimester, please speak with your LMC or GP first.

Always inform your therapist of your gestational age and any complications before booking.

Second Trimester — weeks 13–27
Relief & Restoration

The second trimester is generally the most comfortable time for pregnancy massage. As the belly grows, side-lying positioning is used for safety and comfort. Key focus areas include the lower back, hips, glutes, legs and upper back — addressing postural changes and round ligament tension.

Most women find regular massage in the second trimester significantly reduces ongoing discomfort.

Third Trimester — weeks 28–40
Comfort & Preparation

The third trimester brings the greatest physical demands. Massage is especially beneficial for swelling, sciatica, hip pain, sleep difficulties and anxiety. As the due date approaches, specific techniques can support relaxation and labour preparation. Sessions are adapted to your growing bump with full side-lying positioning.

Regular massage in the third trimester is one of the most valued forms of pregnancy self-care.

Postnatal Massage Auckland

Recovery, restoration & renewal after birth

Birth is one of the most physically demanding experiences a body goes through. In the weeks and months afterwards, new mothers often experience tension from feeding positions, postural strain from carrying, pelvic discomfort, disrupted sleep and the emotional weight of adjusting to motherhood.

Postnatal massage at Premier Wellness supports your recovery — providing physical relief while also offering the rare gift of dedicated, restorative time for yourself.

  • Relieves neck, shoulder and upper back tension from feeding
  • Reduces postnatal fatigue and supports sleep
  • Eases lower back and pelvic discomfort post-birth
  • Supports emotional adjustment and mood
  • Lymphatic drainage to reduce postnatal swelling
  • Can be booked from 6 weeks post-birth (vaginal) or with GP clearance (caesarean)
Postnatal massage at Premier Wellness includes

Frequently Asked Questions

Pregnancy massage Auckland — your questions answered

Is pregnancy massage safe?
Yes — pregnancy massage is safe when performed by a qualified therapist trained in prenatal techniques. Our therapists adapt positioning, pressure and technique for each stage of pregnancy. We recommend waiting until after the first trimester (12 weeks) before booking, and always let your therapist know your gestational age and any complications at the time of booking.
When can I start pregnancy massage in Auckland?
We recommend starting from the second trimester — after 12 weeks. Our therapists at both Glenfield and Orewa can accommodate all stages of pregnancy from the second trimester through to the final weeks before your due date. If you have any complications or your LMC has raised concerns, please check with them before booking.
What does pregnancy massage help with?
Pregnancy massage relieves lower back pain, hip tightness and sciatica, round ligament pain, swelling and fluid retention in the legs and ankles, poor sleep, stress and anxiety, and general muscular tension that builds throughout pregnancy. Regular massage also supports emotional wellbeing and helps prepare the body for labour.
Do you offer postnatal massage in Auckland?
Yes. Our therapists offer postnatal massage to support recovery after birth — relieving tension from feeding positions, easing lower back and pelvic discomfort, reducing postnatal fatigue, supporting lymphatic drainage and providing emotional restoration. Postnatal massage can generally be booked from 6 weeks after a vaginal birth, or with GP clearance following a caesarean section. Available at both our Glenfield and Orewa clinics.
Which Auckland clinic should I book for pregnancy massage?
Both our Glenfield (North Shore) and Orewa (Hibiscus Coast) clinics offer pregnancy massage. Kahu is available at both locations. Diana — who also specialises in pregnancy and postnatal massage, alongside reflexology and lymphatic drainage — is based at our Orewa clinic. Orewa is also open Saturdays, making it ideal if weekday appointments don't work for you.
Can I use Southern Cross for pregnancy massage?
Kahu Weerden-Sweet offers Southern Cross Easy-Claim at both our Glenfield and Orewa clinics. Simply present your member card at payment and the claim is processed immediately — no forms required. Cover for pregnancy massage depends on your individual Southern Cross policy, so check your plan before booking.
How long is a pregnancy massage session?
Sessions are available in 30, 45, 60 and 90 minutes. Most pregnant clients find 60 minutes is ideal — long enough to address multiple areas without becoming physically taxing. In the third trimester, some clients prefer 45-minute sessions as comfort in one position decreases. Your therapist will advise at your first appointment.
Can pregnancy massage also help if I have osteopathy for pregnancy?
Absolutely — and many pregnant patients combine both. Osteopathy for pregnancy addresses structural alignment, pelvic balance and nerve tension, while pregnancy massage provides soft tissue relief, relaxation and circulatory support. Used together at Premier Wellness, they form a comprehensive whole-body approach to pregnancy care. Ask us about combining both when you book.
